Top Tip #3: Catchments

A catchment is an area of land surrounded by natural features such as hills or mountains. When it rains the water that does not soak into the ground runs over the surface towards low points in the area. The low point could be a river, dam or ocean. Drinking water is sourced from catchments.
TOP TIP: There are several things to remember when visiting any water catchment area. These include using the toilet before entering the area, avoiding direct contact with streams, taking extra care when discarding rubbish, obeying signage and not bringing in domestic animals.
