Falls Festival Logo

The environment is very close to the heart of The Falls Festival. The Festival has done such an amazing job at minimising their impact on the environment they have recently been awarded the prestigious A Greener Festival Award! The Award is based on a seven part questionnaire which covers event management, travel and transport plans, CO2 emissions, fair trade, waste management and recycling, water management and noise pollution. Points are awarded for festivals which can show an active plan to promote public transport, reduce on-site waste, recycle and compost wherever possible, re-use water and use sustainable power.

The major water saving initiative of the Falls Festival is the composting toilets. These toilets feature a totally green procedure from start to finish from saving water to eliminating waste. They are flush free and waterless, which saves well over 50kL of fresh drinking water at each event in Tasmania (enough to fill 150,000 stubbies).

Other ideas, such as the recycling program and ongoing enhancement and protection projects, protect the local waterways, flora and fauna.

Congratulations to the Falls Team for setting the precedent for environmentally friendly festivals!
